Have fun at your own Tea Blending Party

Quip sent by Maureen: If you put dry teabags in shoes, they absorb odor. So your shoes smell good but the tea tastes so bad afterwards, it's almost not worth it.

Lamp Update

Thank you to all who sent  suggestions & encouragements. I had no idea how many of you would like to make a lamp! I have set aside the tea items I'd like to use and  am waiting for dear hubby to have time to drill holes for the chase for the electricity.  Perhaps I will have a lamp by next edition. I will keep you posted.

Hello Tea Drinkers -

I'm often asked which tea cozy type I prefer. My answer is, "It depends." As well it does. It depends on whether I'm making a quick small pot for myself or a larger pot to tide me over for a bit. I like the Snug-Up in the morning because the pot gets finished rather quickly. The first cup is gone almost immediately after pour. In the afternoon or when with friends I like to use a larger pot with trivet under and full cozy (dome or box). The trivet keeps the heat from sinking away and the full cozy keeps the teapot warm during long chats and laughter.

The tea cozy I use most often is the 3D Dome one. I like it for two reasons. It's easy to use - one handed if you'd like. That's convenient for me first thing in the morning. Yawn. The second reason is rather silly but... the dangling thingy makes me smile, especially when the sun hits it and it sparkles. Yes, I use all my other cozy designs, but my favorite... the one I grab first each morning is the 3D dome.

To cozy or not to cozy; that is the question. The answer depends on you.

Tea Blending Party at Fort Drum

Hi Rae,

We had our tea blending party this morning with the Fort Drum ministry spouses and it was a great success.  Lots of sampling, talking and fun!  We had 14 ladies and 3 pre-schoolers.  The kiddo's loved the Lady Hannah by the way.

I showed them how to fold a coffee filter into a tea bag, made some tags so they could label their brew, talked about
some of the medicinal uses of some of the choices

Quite a few of our ladies are sending their husband's off to Afghanistan in the next few weeks, so chamomile was a huge hit.  Everyone took home samples of each other's blends.
I don't think there were any "misses".  As a matter of fact, we all agreed that if a tea was too floral, a little lemon grass cleared that right up! A few ladies were not fans of the roses.  They said they felt like they were drinking their grandma's hand lotion ;-)
Oh I wish you could have seen the children.  There is one little 3 year old girl who looks like an angel.  We had a tiny little tea cup for her and while it was steeping, she was going around telling everyone "mines tea is cooling off".  Another child thought the steeping dragon pearls looked like baby hermit crabs!  I get such a kick out of the kiddos.

We had plenty of tea left.  The ladies that weren't able to come asked if they could come by the house one afternoon and play.  It won't be nearly as formal, but still lots of fun.

Some of our husbands are tea drinkers as well and were very interested in trying their hands at blending.  Of course, since they are big bad Soldiers, they will have to come over in the dark of night so no one sees them.  giggle

All in all, it was a hit all around.  Thank you again for all you did for us.

Blessings,
Connie

Lori's First Tea Party

Lori was very concerned about  her first Tea Party. Would it look right? Here are her photos. What do you think?

Pretty Pink Tea Party complete with Tea Hat Cake. The ladies don't have their hats on in the photo below. Everyone had a wonderful time.

A Quilt Project from Gayle

Gayle from Virginia sent in a picture of a lovely quilt she made for her Mother-in-Law. She fussy cut the diamonds around the Tea Cups in Tea #3 and them made a crisscross pattern to mimic the diagonal lines of the diamonds. WONDERFUL!
Here is a close-up of one portion of her quilt. So many corners to match! Oh my goodness. Beautiful work. Thank you Gayle for sharing your talents with us.

A Quilting  Beauty from Chris

Chris from North Carolina also sent a pix of a quilt project. Christ said,  "Top is complete but am thinking of appliquéing grey spoons to the navy blue border.  The quilt is actually being created to hold my silver spoon collection that I have from our
years of living in Germany. Will use light, silk ribbon - tiny. It is really turning out well!
Here is a close-up of one some of the teapots. BEAUTIFUL! Thank you Chris for sharing your talents with us.

Jelly Roll Quilt for Beginners Deux

BECAUSE so many of you used this link and send in comments, I'm repeating it in this edition. It's wonderful for those who are beginning to quilt.  Tina sent it along and said, "Rae, my friend sent me this link about a Jelly Roll Quilt I had not seen this before, but it is my kind of quilt, because it is fast to make and you use scraps."

In case you have trouble with the link, copy paste the address:

NEW for Spring! Tea Angels

A Tea Angel is a cute way to share Loose Leaf Tea with a friend or to introduce a novice to the deep, subtle wonderful taste of 'real tea.'

Her body is a Perfect Measure Spoon (for a consistently good pot of tea). Her wings are Tea Sacs (to insure tidy clean up) and in her pocket is a lovely sample of loose leaf tea.
YES, you may select your fabric and tea and YES for those of you who would like to make your own, I will combine a kit for you that will include everything your see along with instructions.

One more thing to show you...

I tweaked my Tea Cup Carrier a bit so that it will hold a Onesie. And I LOVE, LOVE the Pansy Fabric. Of course you may choose whatever you'd like. :-)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

I'm still waiting for pictures from Lori's Tea Party. As soon as they arrive I will post them.

Grandma's Tea Thought:  I have read articles about caring for one's teapot. However none of the articles mention what I think is the most important thing of all: The best way to take care of a teapot is to use it often.
