Tea Craft with Us.

I am a retired church secretary, a job that I loved. I have 3 married daughters and 4 grandchildren.  I live in Central PA among the Amish. Hubby and I are Penn State Lady Lions basketball fans."
I don't sell my stuff that I make on the computer, I just love making things for people. I like to be an encouragement to those who need it. I especially like to do for the widows and who are so lonely. God has blessed me with a gift in computer crafting and I try to use it to bring joy.

Changing the World
One Teddy Bear at a Time

Faith is a young girl who lives in Lafayette Indiana, far away from the soldiers of the 240th who know her as "the wonderful girl who sends us Teddy Bears and Tea." It was first called Operation Teddy Bear by Faith when she was in the 4th grade - she has now (2008)sent over 1000 teddy bears to the troops. Some of those teddy bears were carrying Friendship Tea bags with a special saying for our dear soldiers. Faith's story was featured in American Girl Magazine Nov/Dec 2008

While continuing to send Bear Hugs to the Troops., Faith has embarked on a two year project to write a book about her Tea Time experiences with 30 famous people of Indiana. This goal minded young lady already has a publisher. Here is Faith at her first interviews with The Daughters Of Mother Theodore Guerin.

Here she is with all the girls in her Mother Annie's nursery school "The Little Tin Soldier" in Lafayette, Indiana.

Tea Party Photos

A Birthday Tea Party was given for Jessica's 8th Birthday.  Each young guests was served her own individual Tea Service. Katherine (Par-TEA with Katherine) gave etiquette lessons and explained about life for girls at the turn of the last century.

Here's a group of older girls at a "Thank You for Your Friendship Tea Party" given to by Pat B. While enjoying there delicious repast, Pat gave a little speech of thanks to each guests for being such a wonderful part of her life. By the way, the young girl in the wheelchair (foreground in pink) is Pat's 90 yr old Mother.

Taste Testing Tea at Grandma Rae's. We tasted scone mix and tea bread mix for a vendor. It was lots of yummy fun.

Crochet Tea Cup Deux

In a previous issue I featured a Crochet Tea Cup design with directions sent in by Judi from Sun City Arizona. A few of you sent emails saying you were going to try the pattern. Debbie Lawrence, owner of Four Seasons Camp Grounds in Scotrun, Pennsylvania made this crochet sweetie. She scaled down the original patter. If you have any technical questions please send them to Debbie. For those of you who are encouraged by Debbie's creativity here is the link to the original project.

Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cozy, doesn't try it on.

Tea Makes You Beautiful

Did you know that cooled Chamomile tea can be used as a hair rinse to bring out the highlights of red, light brown and blonde hair. I haven't tried it on my turning-more-gray-each-day hair.

How MCDuff Took Charge

Janet from Carbondale, Illinois emailed me about a lovely silver teapot she had that belonged to her Grandfather. She wanted it to have a place on honor and a special tea cozy. A few days after she received the tea cozy I received this photo. It seems that her ginger cat McDuff had decided on better use for the cozy.

Nursery Students don
white gloves & bowler hats

Each year for the students at the Green Pond Winter Nursery School celebrate their mothers by having a tea party.  All the food is made by the preschoolers and lovingly served to their mothers.  The students prepare for weeks in advance memorizing songs and poem as well as learning how to serve their mom a cup of "tea" (lemonade) from a real tea pot.  Their pride can be seen on their faces as they sit at the table at the end of the day and get to share "tea" with Mom..

Lessons learned at
End of Year Tea Party

The Table is set. You are cordially invited to attend The End of Year Tea Party for the 5th at the Stillwater Christian School in Kalispell, Montana. Their teacher wanted to end the year with a meaningful time together. The principal couldn't understand why the cafeteria wasn't a suitable place for a tea party. Perhaps the joy on the girl's faces is part of the answer.
The tea party was at Sherill's (Mom's) home. She wrote, "...we thought by having the girls share in the elegant setting of a traditional high tea, they might see the importance of being kind to others, the importance of giving, vs. receiving and how important it is to be there for each other..." I was happy to attend by sending Bible Verse Encouragement Cards in oversized Friendship Tea Bags for each girl's place setting. Even though the party was held out of school, Lois (Sherill's sis-in-law and teacher) did not neglect her teaching responsibilities, showing her students examples of different teas - loose tea, tea bags and flowering teas.
The Theme of the day was "Tea and Friendship". A poster spelled the word Friendship vertically:
Friendly
Respectful
Inviting
Encouraging
Nice
Discerning
Sharing
Helpful
Imaginative
Praying.

What is a Tea Party?

What is a tea party? Friends! And evidently my daughter Sandy agrees with her Mother. (Smart child!) Here's a pix of her and two friends having evening tea and laughter. Sandy (C), Carolyn (L) and Kim (R).

Tub Tea 101

The simplest way to make Tub Tea is to use a handful of fresh herbs tied in a bunch hung beneath the hot water as it runs into the tub. Fragrant herbs, easily grown, are lovely as lavender, mint, thyme, rosemary, chamomile or loveage. Examine your garden herbs for insects and dirt. Rinse before using in tub. Don't use store bought herbs unless they are certified pesticide free.

You can also tie a fragrant mix of herbs and dried citrus in a square of cheese cloth or muslin and hang it under the hot water as it runs into the tub.

This and more wonderful information can be found in The Herb Book by Arabella Boxer & Phillippa Back, Hamlyn Press.
